About the Book

Valentin Vitalyevich Lebedev (1942–2024) — Soviet cosmonaut, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Doctor of Technical Sciences.

In 1982, Valentin Lebedev, together with Anatoly Berezovoy, completed a record-breaking 211-day flight aboard the Salyut-7 orbital station. Throughout the entire flight, he kept a detailed personal diary — a rare and candid document about life in space.

The diary was first published in the journal Nauka i Zhizn (Science and Life) in 1984. These entries were never meant for publication — they are a cosmonaut's conversation with himself, describing his sensations, experiences, hardships and joys of working in orbit.

About This Site

This site presents Lebedev's diary as a series of dated entries that can be read chronologically, as if the cosmonaut were writing from orbit in 1982.
