Got up at 8 in the morning. The left side of my forehead hurts; pressing on the back of the head helps a bit. Tolya is sleeping, talking in his sleep. Mood is decent, but if I have to live with this headache all the time, it’ll wear me down. My condition throughout the day comes in waves: in the morning a bit of nausea, after breakfast it eases up; work helps especially, if it goes well. The queasiness was there yesterday and a little today, particularly when we moved into the station and began rushing to prepare a TV report. We ran around so much that by the end I felt slightly seasick; I started being more careful. Today we repaired “Delta” and “Rodnik” — mood went up. Yesterday we fixed the glitches in the cooling-drying unit, which was also satisfying.
Tolya’s appetite is poor. I made him eat, and he refused. So I said: “Listen, don’t ruin my appetite — sit down and eat.” He sat. The main thing is to establish a daily routine; that’s the foundation right now, the foundation of life on board, because for the moment everything is a bit chaotic. Our working rapport is good: each of us does his own job and asks the other for help when needed. Today we had hot food, freeze-dried. Things looked up. We laid our space plumbing from “Rodnik”: two water tanks of 250 liters each are located outside the station, in the service module. We put together the circuit, ran the hoses, and now we drink water at the main control post. Right now I’m sitting at the primary post, got thirsty, switched on the transfer pump — water flowing, tastes good.
Today’s schedule was called a “day of active rest” on the TV program Vremya. That sounded like a joke, since we worked all day. In the evening we tidied up the station and put away a lot of excess hardware. I was just looking at the Earth as we entered the terminator, flying over North America. The horizon line looked like the wall of a pyramid, made up of three or more layers. Going to sleep; the headache is easier by evening.
