All day helping the crew with the “Poza” experiment. Assembled the equipment, installed it, powered it up.
Jean, what a character — he brought a Quasimodo mask. Yesterday, when I was working in the work compartment and climbing up a panel, this shaggy mug pops out from behind the science equipment bay — I was so startled I yelped. Everyone was howling with laughter.
During the experiment I filmed them with the movie camera. A great episode came out when Jean stood in the mask on the “Poza” equipment platform, and I filmed it. The entire visiting crew did this experiment. Then Jean and Volodya Dzhanibekov worked on echocardiography, while I helped Sasha with assembly of the “Magma” furnace for growing crystals.
With the crew’s arrival, so many radiograms come in that you could get confused. You have to keep your wits about you, or you’ll make a real mess.
During the day I asked for permission to eject a waste container through the airlock. The honor of launching this satellite from the station was given to Jean. He was very pleased. At 16:30:30, I noted the time, he pressed the handle, the spring pusher fired, and the waste container began its independent existence. We launch such satellites weekly, freeing ourselves of garbage.
Today we replaced the SIRT — the fuel consumption measurement system. The day went well, calmly — I liked it. In the evening, during dinner, we all sat together again. Jean, when he first entered the station, said: “Oh, how spacious.” And today when he woke up, he says: “Oh, what a good sleep — I even had a dream.”
